TYKE/Kindergarten Readiness Assessment

Being age-eligible for entrance to school and being developmentally ready to successfully meet the rigors of school are two different matters. St. Edward the Confessor Parish School requires all applicants for TYKE or Kindergarten enrollment (except those who have completed a screening within the past 12 months) to participate in a school readiness screening. For more information, please read our screening FAQ below.

During the school year, we offer opportunities for a screening assessment to be conducted onsite. During the summer or off-peak times, screening is available at the Chancy & Bruce center located in San Clemente.

For the 2025-2026 school year, we will be offering TYKE and Kindergarten readiness screening on January 8 and 9, 2025.

We have two Signups for this screening:

  • TYKE Age-Eligible: Birthdate between 9/1/2020 - 12/31/2020
  • Kindergarten Age-Eligible: Birthdate between 5/1/2019 - 8/31/2020

An application must be submitted to be considered for the readiness screening.

AGE-ELIGIBLE GUIDELINES

TYKE: Must be 5 years old by December 31st.

Kindergarten: Must be 5 years old by September 1st.

Students must assess "ready" for the grade level he/she is enrolling.

Students may not enroll in a grade level higher than their assessed grade level, except in the case of extenuating circumstances, which may be discussed with the assistant principal. Students assessing "ready" for Kindergarten may opt to enroll in our TYKE program rather than Kindergarten if their 5th birthday falls between May and August. Students assessing ready for TYKE may opt to enroll in TYKE or our preschool program.
