6th Grade Spanish

Course Description

6th Grade Spanish Field Trip Info for OLVERA STREET

This is a fun, exciting, and educational walking tour of Olvera Street, one of the oldest areas of Los Angeles! The trip will begin with a train ride from San Juan Capistrano to the historic Union Station in Los Angeles. We will explore history, architecture, and traditions, as well as have the opportunity to partake of the delicious foods and shopping opportunities.  We will be visiting during the Día de los Muertos celebrations and are hoping to see “ofrendas,” or memorials, that are created to honor, celebrate, and commemorate the lives of loved ones who have passed away.  Most importantly, students will be able to witness Spanish in action and practice their skills.

DRESS CODE:   Students will wear MASS uniform. However, girls should wear regular shoes and socks, not their Mass flats, due to the amount of walking. Boys do not need to wear a tie.

EXPECTATIONS:

Learners will be expected to demonstrate respect, care and consideration at all times. We will be representing our school community, our 6th grade class, and our families of origin. We also hope to be a blessing to others and reflect the light of our Lord Jesus Christ in all that we say and do. On the train, students need to remember to use appropriate “inside voices” and remain seated with their small groups and chaperone.

WHAT TO BRING: Students need to bring at least $10 for lunch and money if they want to purchase souvenirs.  They will be responsible for their own money. Souvenirs purchased must be appropriate for school. Students may bring a small bag or purse, but may NOT bring a backpack. Snacks will not be provided.  Students may bring a small snack and a water bottle but will be responsible for carrying it.  Also, Amtrak will not be able to accommodate a group of our size in the Café Car so students will NOT be able to purchase food on the train.  Students may bring a camera that is not a part of a cell phone to take educational pictures.

CELL PHONES:  Students who choose to bring a cell phone must check it in to the assigned chaperone to his or her group.  The phone is only to be used in the case of an extreme emergency situation.  The adult chaperone will keep the cell phones for the duration of the field trip and will return it to the student upon returning to the train station in San Juan Capistrano.
