Due:

Assignment

Our indpendent Jane Schaffer argumentative paragraph will be due Friday by 11:59pm. Learners have been working on this assignment during class for the past two weeks. My suggestion would be to encourage learners to proofread their work before submitting.

Due:

Assignment

Please use the attached study guide to prepare for our spelling test next Tuesday the 16th. If your learner is not going to be present next week, please have them schedule a time (after school on Wednesday, or during lunch on Thursday) to take this test ahead of time. Please note: the list of words given are examples of words that learners might be asked to spell, they are not the words I will ask them to spell. The focus of this test is that learners know these common spelling rules.

Due:

Next Tuesday, the 19th, we will have our Jane Schaffer terminology quiz part 1. The following Tuesday, the 26th, we will build on this knowledge with part two. Please see the study guide attached for information on each part.

Due:

Assignment

Attached is study material for our end-of-unit, in-class writing assessment. This will take place next Thursday, the 21st. This test will be a written essay completed in one class period. Learners can bring one sticky note of information with them for this assessment. They may not bring a draft of an essay, though I do encourage learners to practice responding to this prompt ahead of time.

The prompt is: Find a theme in the short story provided. Write an essay that uses evidence to prove this theme.

For this essay, my grading focus is a strong theme and an organized essay. The short story for this assessment will be sent out next Tuesday, the 19th. Learners are encouraged to prepare for their essay using this story.

Due:

Assignment

This is the short story that learners will respond to, in essay form, on Thursday, February 21st in class. This is an end-of-unit writing assessment. Learners should read this short story ahead of time, determine a theme, craft an outline, and prepare one sticky note of information (that is not a completed draft) to bring to class on Thursday.

Please refer to the previous post for a short story and example essay. Also, Literary Essay #2 on Google Classroom is the structure for completing this essay. This can be found on Google Classroom. We will practice outlining in class in preparation for this test, though, I would encourage learners to go beyond class time to prepare.

Due:

Assignment

As we near the third trimester, we want to further prepare our learners for success in 7th grade, 8th grade, and high school. As a result, we will be focusing on the following ROAR expectations: being on time to class, having all materials, and using technology properly. Please see the attached document for specific information regarding these ROAR expectations in all sixth grade classrooms. We have explained this focus to learners and we appreciate your support!

Due:

Assignment

Next Thursday, the 7th we will have a short writing skills quiz. This will be a multiple choice assessment in which learners will be asked to identify the sentences in a paragraph. Please see the attached study guide.

Due:

Assignment

On February 5th, learners will take a short quiz on the grammar topic of combining sentences. Please use this study guide as an overview of what your learners should know for this quiz. Additionally, your learner has a textbook they are welcome to take home from the classroom, their workbook practice pages, in-class notes, and an exit ticket to study with.
