It’s play rehearsal time! 7th grade learners will begin rehearsing for the play A Christmas Carol on Monday, November 26th. On this day we will hold auditions during reading classes. Below are the characters that the learners could audition for if they chose to. Each part has a section that the learners could practice with during their break so that they are ready to come into class ready to audition. Please look at the roles and chose which one you would like to play, and then practice, practice, practice! Remember that we will need an understudy for each part and some non-acting roles will be offered as well. Everyone will have a job! So come in on Monday after the break ready to show us your talents!
Marley: Scrooge! Money is not everything. I carry the chain I created in life. Each link is an act of greed and cruelty. It was invisible until the day of my death. Your chain was as long as mine SEVEN Christmases ago! You have labored on it since…it is a PONDEROUS chain!
Scrooge: Bah Humbug! Christmas is a waste of time! It is a celebration for foolish loons! Christmas is just an excuse to take off work and expect to be paid; to buy things you don’t need; to waste your money! Any fool who believes in Christmas should be boiled in his own pudding!
Fred: I thought you would refuse. You never want to have any fun. I just want us to be friends. My mother used to tell me how wonderful you were. I just want you to have some Christmas cheer. So, I shall invite you every year just in case you change your mind! A merry Christmas to you Uncle! (runs and leaves present/wreath; then out the door).
Bob: (slowly approaching Scrooge and tapping him on the shoulder) Sir…Master Scrooge…
Tomorrow is Christmas Day, and I was wondering if I could maaaaaybee….just the one time…have the day off?
Past: I am here to show you your past, and to remind you that you were not always the selfish, cold-hearted person you are today. I think looking back on your past may help you learn from your mistakes.
Young Scrooge: Fan, how happy I am to see you. But don’t lie to me, you know father won’t let me come home.
Fan: Brother! He has changed! He is much kinder than he used to be and he even sent me in a coach to bring you home! You will start an apprenticeship soon. But before that, we will send the entire Christmas together! Hooray for Christmas!
Fezziwig: Gentlemen, gentlemen. You have been working hard. It has been a long day. Now it is time to enjoy each other’s company. No more work. It is Christmas Eve. Let us celebrate! Let’s dance, sing, and feast all through the night! Find a dance partner! Merry Christmas everyone!
Bell: Oh Ebenezer! You are such a blind, selfish man. All you care about is wealth and gain. You have forgotten what it is like to be rich in spirit and love.
Man Scrooge: Bell, I am not so changed. I am just smarter now. The world revolves around money and I intend to make A LOT of it.
Present: Hello there Ebenezer Scrooge! I am the Ghost of Christmas Present. I am here to show you how things are today…and from what I can see…they are not looking too good.
Mrs. Cratchit: The founder of our feast indeed! I wish I had him here right now. I’d give him something to feast upon and hope he had a good appetite for it.
Tiny Tim: I can’t wait for the plum pudding mother!
Narrator 1: Scrooge is in his office counting piles of gold change, making sure he has made a profit. Bob Cratchit, Scrooge’s hard-working employee tries his best to keep warm and finish his work. Fred, Scrooge’s friendly and spirited nephew enters the office.
Narrator 2: Past transports Scrooge back to his days as a young boy in school. Scrooge reads all alone in the play yard waving goodbye to his classmates who left for the holiday break. No one usually came for Scrooge. But one year, Fan, Scrooge’s sister came to take him home.
Narrator 3: They walk into the house. The Cratchit family is making Christmas dinner. Scrooge sees how loving the family is toward one another. He notices Tiny Tim, the youngest son. He is crippled and poor in health, but he keeps his spirits high. Scrooge feels compassion for the boy as he watches.
