Mrs. Zieman will say the word, then say a sentence, then repeat the word. Learners will be required to write the correct word on their paper. Practice the sentences Mrs. Zieman gave you in class.

Grammar quiz on conjunctions

Coordinating conjunctions: and, but, or, for, nor, so, yet
Correlative conjunctions: both/and, either/or, neither/nor, not only/but, whether/or


Quiz format:

For coordinating conjunctions:
Learners will be given a sentence and they will need to underline the conjunction.
ex: I want to go to Disneyland but I want to go to Knott's Berry Farm too!
 
For correlating conjunctions:
Learners will be given a sentence with one of the coordinating conjunctions, and there will be a blank. They will need to fill in the blank with the other half of the pair.
ex: Last year, I not only broke my arm _____ I also broke my leg. (answer: but)

Please use the following checklist to make sure everything is complete before you print it, or before Mrs. Zieman prints it.
(REMINDER: if you want your pictures to be colored, you need to print yourself, otherwise Mrs. Zieman will print at school)
 
1. Did you add your bibliography on its own page at the end?
2. (For those who have a Table of Contents, did you add the Bibliography to it?)
3. Do all of your pictures have captions?
4. Are all your fonts the correct size?
Chapter titles, Bibliography title, Table of Contents title, Westward Expansion title and name=18 pt
A,B,C titles= 14 pt
The rest of the text=12 pt
5. Did you check to see if you have any big blank spaces? if so, get rid of them (hint: zoom to 50%, and you can see if there are any weird spacing) 
6. Did you read over your work and make sure ALL errors were fixed and sentences make sense?

That includes:
Introduction
All chapter a's, b's, and c's (c's are optional)
Conclusion
 
The format for each paragraph (excludes introduction and conclusion) is:
1.Topic Sentence
2. Fact
3. Explanation (why is the fact important, what would it be like for those people during those times, what is suprising about this fact?
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until all facts are done
 
Format for Introduction:
1. Hook
2. 1 sentence about each chapter
3. Thesis: Chapter 1's title, Chapter 2's title, and Chapter 3's title, all _____________________________________________________________. (finish the sentence...essentially the thesis) 
example of thesis: The Native Americans, Transportation, and The Gold Rush, all play a vital role in the Westward Expansion. 
 
Format for Conclusion:
1. Repeat thesis from introduction
2. 2 sentences about what the reader learned from the report (ie: In The Gold Rush chapter, you learned....)
3. 1 wrap up sentence to end the report
 
 
Attached is a sample of what the writing should look like when it is completed by January 7th

Every learner must finish their research by Tuesday 12/11 (for periods 2 and 5), and Wednesday 12/12 (for period 1). They all are bringing home their composition book with all of their research, and their outline. They know exactly what sections they still need to work on. They are to write the facts they find, in their own words. So they might ask for some help! 

They should all be copying their websites into their bibliography which is one Google docs. 

To access Google docs, search Google docs on Google. They will then be able to log into their Google docs by using the same log in they use to log into the chrome books in class. 

 

(some learners are done with their research, so they do not need to work on it this weekend)

Tom must be disguised and there must be a short story telling the story of how you and Tom became friends and how you disguised him! Story must be three paragraphs with a beginning middle and end!
