6th Grade Spanish Field Trip Info for OLVERA STREET

This is a fun, exciting, and educational walking tour of Olvera Street, one of the oldest areas of Los Angeles! The trip will begin with a train ride from San Juan Capistrano to the historic Union Station in Los Angeles. We will explore history, architecture, and traditions as well as have to opportunity to partake of the delicious foods, and shopping opportunities.  We will be visiting during the Día de los Muertos celebrations and are hoping to see “ofrendas” or memorials that are created to honor, celebrate and commemorate the lives of loved ones who have passed away.  Most importantly, students will be able to witness Spanish in action and practice their skills.

 DATE:       Wednesday, October 28th, 2015

WHERE:    Amtrak San Juan Capistrano Train Station  26701 Verdugo Street, San Juan Capistrano 92675.  Meet in front of railroad tracks between parking garage and Sarducci’s restaurant. (Drop-off and Pick-up)

WHEN:     Drop-off: Promptly arrive at train station listed above at 9:20 a.m. DO NOT go to school! Check in with your Homeroom teacher and meet your chaperone and small group for the day.  Pick-up: 4:20 p.m. at the same place as the drop-off location.

DRESS CODE:   Students will wear MASS uniform. However girls should wear regular shoes and socks, not their mass flats, due to the amount of walking.

WHAT TO BRING: Students need to bring at least $10 for lunch and money if they want to purchase souvenirs.  Souvenirs purchased must be appropriate for school.  They will be responsible for their own money. **Snacks will not be provided.  Students may bring a small snack but will need to be responsible for carrying it.  Also, Amtrak will not be able to accommodate a group of our size in the Café Car so students will NOT be able to purchase food on the train.  Students may bring a camera that is not a part of a cell phone to take educational pictures.

CELL PHONES:  Students who choose to bring a cell phone must check it in to the assigned chaperone to his or her group.  The phone is only to be used in the case of an extreme emergency situation.  The adult chaperone will keep the cell phones for the duration of the field trip and will return it to the student upon returning to the train station in San Juan Capistrano.

EMERGENCY CONTACT: Mr. Haldeman, Assistant Principal, will be with us all day. Please contact him ONLY in the case of an emergency. 563-320-3850.

If you have any further questions please email: Sra. Cope [email protected]. We are looking forward to a wonderful trip!

Sinceremente,

Sra. Cope
