This year, the Lift Off To Literacy program will host their annual kick off on September 8th. We will greet the learners with a special visiting author and introduce this year's theme: Always Learning –The theme will be a culmination of all that we have learned over the past few years concerning our reading incentive program.
We are putting all of our past experiences together and focusing on the school’s overall mission of Always Learning. We will emphasize the importance of “reading volume” at our own personal best level. Essentially realizing that learners need to experience enormous quantities of successful reading to become independent, proficient readers. This will help us make connections and become even better readers, while emphasizing the importance of reading choice and the significance of creativity in our learning. We will focus on the concept of perfection being just what it is, and that mistakes are part of the process. This idea is celebrated in our visiting author: Barney Saltzberg’s book, Beautiful Oops. We could not have found a more perfect author to assist us in kicking off our new theme.
As in years past, we will continue our acknowledgment and empathy towards the importance of literacy across the world and recognize our privilege of having the opportunity to go to school each day and have wonderful books at our fingertips. We are so excited to meet Mr. Barney Saltzberg and hear his take on our theme this year! We know that it is going to be an exciting day. Each class will blast off with our traditional classroom rockets to track their progress for the 60-60 Read-Aloud challenge for the most creative and interesting classroom reading choices.
