St. Edward Extended School Day Childcare Program (TYKE-8)

Purpose
The purpose of our program is to provide students with supervision and guidance before and after school in a safe and nurturing environment.

Statement of Philosophy
Eday is St. Edward the Confessor Parish School’s Extended School Day Childcare Program. It supports the families of working parents by providing valued, quality before and after school childcare. The program activities are designed to enhance the social, spiritual, cognitive, and physical development of the child. Our qualified staff is dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing Christian environment. Our program is an extension of St. Edward the Confessor Parish School and therefore follows the same philosophy, goals, rules, and standards.

Objectives
  • To provide a safe and secure environment.
  • To create a bond of friendship, cooperation, and mutual respect between people of all ages and backgrounds.
  • To offer a variety of activities which enhance the school curriculum as well as our Catholic faith.
  • To provide supervised quiet time for the completion of homework.
  • To provide nutritious snacks, fun games, and wholesome entertainment.

Extended School Day Childcare Programs
Public and private schools, which sponsor and staff before and/or after school programs for school age children, are exempt from licensure. This exemption only applies when all of the children receiving care and/or supervision are enrolled in the school. Eday is viewed as a natural extension of the school’s daily program. In this respect, Eday is closed when the school is closed, including holidays, Christmas and Easter break, and summer vacation.

Admission Requirements
The Diocese of Orange requires that only students enrolled at a given school be permitted to attend that school’s extended school day childcare program. Therefore students of only St. Edward the Confessor Parish School, Kindergarten to Eighth Grade, are allowed to attend St. Edward the Confessor Extended School Day Childcare Program.

2023-2024
Eday is self-supporting, fees will be charged in addition to the school tuition. There are three payment options available. Both the Unlimited and Hourly Plans require an annual $65 per family registration fee. There is no registration fee for the Drop-in Plan.

Unlimited Plan- This plan includes all morning and afternoon Eday hours for regular school days, early dismissal days, minimum days, and special schedule days.  The Unlimited Plan rates are based on 180 school days including one full-day conference day divided into 10 equal payments.  The Unlimited Plan is most cost effective for families who need childcare an average of 38 hours or more per month for one child, and an average of 60 hours or more per month for two children.  Families are allowed to opt out of and opt back into the Unlimited Plan only once during the school year.

One Child         $375/month
Two Children    $597/month
Three Children $758/month

Hourly Plan- This plan is based on the total number of hours a student is scheduled to attend during a one-month period. Parents are to submit a student’s schedule prior to his/her attendance. The Monthly Tally Sheet is available on the school website. The hourly rate is $10.00/hr. per child.

Drop-in- This plan is for occasional or emergency care. Advanced notification of at least two hours of attendance is required with the exception of emergency situations.  Eday can be notified by phone or e-mail.  The hourly rate is $14.75/hr. per child.

Discipline Policy
Eday is an extension program of the school and guided by the school’s discipline policy. Registration of your child or children in Eday is equivalent to a commitment on the parents’ part to adhere to all disciplinary action, and on the child’s part to follow all the rules.

Plan of Consequences:
o Verbal warning to child. Child may spend some time away from the others to reflect upon the inappropriateness of his/her actions or words and then think of positive alternatives and/or solutions to the improper behavior. The staff member who gave the verbal warning will follow up with the child after the “time-out” or an age appropriate consequence. The parent is usually notified of the inappropriateness and the action taken.

o Written warning to the child and parent. A note of this warning will be made and kept in the child’s records.

o Conference with the parent, child, director, and if necessary staff member(s).

o Principal and Vice-Principal are notified of continuing disturbance.

If a child continues to disregard the rules and reminders established by Eday he/she will be removed from program.

Emergency Policy
In the event of an emergency, all possible measures will be taken to reach the parents first. If a parent is reached, we will then do our best to follow his/her plan of action. If we fail to reach either parent, the additional persons whose names appear on the Eday Registration Form will be called. If the emergency is life threatening, we will make arrangements immediately and then contact the parents. All families must have a completed Eday Registration Form on file. It is extremely important that the school and EDAY be notified in the event of a change of phone number, address, and/or person to contact in the event of an emergency.
